PixStipple
A downloadable Plugin for Windows and macOS
PixStipple will create dither-patterned transparency for your pixel art animations!
PixStipple is a personal Adobe After Effects plugin that I am releasing to the public for free that will allow you to quantize your pixel transparency into a dither pattern! PixStipple allows for objects to fade in and out of your After Effects composition using ordered dithering to selectively turn pixels on or off according to a pattern. This is something that I have personally used in my pixel animations with the added benefit that it adds no new colors to your palette allowing your limited-palette style to be consistent as well as the bonus of having a more neatly optimized exported GIF in the end without the addition of all the intermediate-colors of traditional pixel-blending opacity.
The "choke" option also allows you to map between traditional transparency and dithered-transparency.
Seems kinda niche, but you'll know when you need it!
